Niamh Flanagan, Things we've lost, things we've found, Etching

The work in this exhibition celebrates Graphic Studio Dublin’s 50th Anniversary. Established in 1960 Graphic Studio Dublin aimed to teach traditional printmaking skills (then unavailable in Irish art colleges), and to provide studios and technical assistance to artists to make fine art prints. The Gallery (Graphic Studio Gallery) was established in 1988, to promote fine-art printmaking in Ireland and abroad, to educate the public about fine art printmaking, and to exhibit and sell fine art prints on behalf of their member artists. They currently have sixty-seven members and this exhibition in Limerick Printmakers Gallery has a selection of work from some of these artists. Including, Meadhbh Arthurs, Jean Bardon, Gerard Cox, Louise Farrelly, Paul Fitters, Niamh Flanagan, Nickie Hayden, Siobhan Hyde, Lilian Ingram, Stephen Lawlor, Louise Leonard, Daniel Lipstein, Deirdre Nolan, Ruth O'Donnell, Geraldine O'Reilly, Robert Russell, Adrienne Symes, Elke Thönnes, Michael Timmins, Katherine Van Uytrecht, and Marta Wakula-Mac.

All of the pieces on display are original prints made in the Distillery House Studio and they showcase the variety of techniques both traditional and contemporary that are in use there.  On arriving into Limerick Printmakers gallery the viewer is immediately confronted with Lilian Ingram’s huge and stunning Digital and Drypoint diptych ‘A Second, Watches Over the Body’. The subtlety of colour and the ghostly images of the figures immediately draw one in. Ingram a recent member of Graphic Studio Dublin is a Graduate of GMIT and has won several awards since graduating, including the Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Trust Award in 2008.

Jean Bardon’s stunning ‘Peonie Rose with Gold Leaf’ and ‘Dark Iris with Gold Leaf’ showcases the high quality of prints that are produced in Graphic Studio Dublin.  These beautiful traditional colour etchings embellished with gold leaf, represent some of the best botanical fine art prints in Ireland. Of course the prints of Stephen Lawlor, Robert Russell, Michael Timmins and Nickie Hayden in this show display the usual level of expertise and beauty that we expect from these well know Irish printmakers.

The exhibition will run until 13th of May. For further information please contact Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery at the details below. The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.

All are welcome. Admission is free.
