Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery are delighted to present our ninth annual Open Submission Print Show, an exhibition of contemporary original printmaking selected by the renouned Limerick based artist Charles Harper RHA. The show will officially open on Thursday 6h of June at 8pm and runs until Saturday 29th June 2013.

Each year Limerick Printmakers puts out an open call for printmakers to submit up to three artworks for selection, which can be traditional prints such as etching, lithography, silkscreen, or woodblock, as well as digital print or mixed media works with an element of print. This year over a hundred prints were submitted from artists from Ireland, the UK, Europe, and Australia.

This year’s selector Charles Harper RHA studied at the National College of Art and Design, Limerick School of Art and the Graphic Studio in Dublin. He has represented Ireland at International Biennials in many countries throughout his career and he has exhibited regularly both nationally and internationally.
Charles has received many national awards for his painting, including first prize for his work commemorating the 1916 Rising at the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Dublin, the Carrolls Open Award at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art in Dublin and The Arts Council’s Bonn an Uachtarain de Hide at the Oireachtas Art Exhibition. More recently he was awarded the BulBulia Award at the R.H.A. in 2008. His work is included in many important public and private collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and The Irish Museum of Modern Art. He is also a member of Aosdana and the Royal Hibernian Academy.
The artists selected for this years exhibition are Christina Bennett, Kieran Carey, Jason Deans, Eithne Deloughry O’ Byrne, Wendy Dison, Niamh Fahy, Nessa Finnegan, Pat Fitzpatrick, Aidan Flanagan, Deirdre Gallagher, Helena Grimes, Tim Humpfries, David Lilburn, Bernadette Madden, Margaret Mannion Kallen, Marie-Louise Martin, Eilish McCann, Martina Navratilova, Ruth O’ Donnell, Suzannah O’ Reilly, Kate O’ Shea, Heidi Reich, Jim Sheehy, Jacob Stack, Rynes Walker, Mike Byrne and Lorraine Wall.

Charles has selected a diverse range of work that illustrates the myriad possiblities that lie within the medium of print, from Rynes Walker intriguing photograph ‘Z-Section’ to the quirkiness of Helena Grimes drypoint and monoprint ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’.
David Lilburn’s print beautifully captures an epic journey in delicate tones while Jason Deans intense mark-making draws the viewer into a playground scene. This exhibition is a declaration of the vibrancy and diversity that exists in printmaking today.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm. 11am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
