Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery are delighted to present Life Size Print, an exhibition of LARGE prints by our members to celebrate our tenth birthday. Joe Buckley, friend and patron for the past 10 years has selected the work for this show will officially launch this exhibition at 8pm on Thursday 10th September.

Artists featured are Vivienne Bogan, Eithne Deloughry O’Byrne, Pamela Dunne, Clare Gilmour, Gavin Hogg, Dan Kenny, Des Mac Mahon, Marian McGrath, Desmond McLoughlin, Mary Meskell, Mary O’Dea, Suzannah O’Reilly, Derek O’Sullivan.

All of the artists were given the task of creating life size prints and this theme was to be reflected in either the idea behind the work, or in the scale of the individual pieces. The only condition was that the work should be A1 size or over and the artists certainly took this on board.

Gavin Hogg’s impressive print ‘Heads You Win, Tails You Lose?’ is made up of 9 highly decorative collographs pieced together to form a piece measuring 142cm x 160.5cm in rich warm oranges greens and reds. The concept behind this work is the imaginative play of language. The possibility that something which is initially presented and perceived as being straightforwardly decorative, could in fact, have a deeper imaginative resonance.

Mary O’Dea’s black and white print ‘Oasis’ deals with the contrast between the life that consumerism offers us, one of happiness and perfection and the actual one it delivers.  She was interested in how consumerism has replaced the role of religion for many and attempts to pose the question as to what gaps this has left in our everyday lives.

Suzannah O’Reilly’s huge collograph landscape in the most beautiful colours, reflect perfectly the setting sun on the Tipperary hills near her home.

Mary Meskell played around with the idea of Life Size and The Size of Life. To Meskell this embodies the unbeatable human spirit that can rise up and overcome the darkest of human situations which is reflected in her photographic work.

All of the prints are unframed and work varies from collographs, silkscreen, photography, woodcuts and monoprints

The exhibition will run until 1st October 2009. For further information on this exhibition, please contact Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery at the details below. The gallery is open Monday to Friday 11am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
